An example of how NOT to break up with someone:

My boyfriend was driving me to a friends house where I was meeting up with a bunch of my girl friends to go out to dinner for someone's birthday. Out of nowhere, he told me he didn't want to be together anymore, dropped me off, and sped off. I like to call it the dump and run. Needless to say I had to attend the birthday dinner with a splotchy tear-stained face, and no ride home.

Do it in person:

Breaking up via email is not classy. At the very least, your friend deserves a face to face encounter. Even a few tears . . .
