Greetings and welcome to my little corner of the dating world. In this “Dish About Dating” forum, I’ll be sharing news of the dating world, dishing about good, bad and ugly dating experiences, and posing the occasional courtship question of you, the reader.

Well, we all know what dating is, right? The man makes the call, the woman plays the coquette. With old-fashioned dating, there is a recognized and somewhat rigid set of rules that everybody’s played since 1932 or so. Women never ask men out. Men always pay for everything. And the only reason you date is so you can figure out who you want to marry.
These days, things are a little different. People meet each other online. They arrange dates in public places because it’s not safe to give out your home address to a stranger. They go “dutch” on dates and receive propositions as often as they do marriage proposals (all right, the propositions happen a bit more often). Technology is a big part of the post-dating world, as is our instant gratification mindset, our soul mate shopping lists, and those all-pervasive media messages.
Welcome to dating in the post-dating world.
- Have you ever Googled a date?
- Been told by someone (or told someone yourself) that while commitment is out of the picture, a friends with benefits relationship would really hit the spot?
- Been involved in a white hot passionate email relationship for weeks and then suddenly been e-dumped without ever meeting the person?
